Irish Setter.

What a fantastic colour, this looks like a show dog, but make no mistake, it's still in demand as a gundog.
It is easy to see that this dog was developed from the Spaniel breeds, with the colour and size coming from selective breeding programs.

Scottish Terrier.

The Scottish Terrier (also known as the Aberdeen Terrier) is popularly called the Scottie. A Scottish Terrier and a West Highland White Terrier are featured on the Black & White whiskey label. A label that makes an impression, with the contents of the bottle in the same league.

Border Collie.

A herding dog breed, developed in the Anglo-Scottish border region. Often cited as the most intelligent of all dog breeds. Border Collies require considerable exercise and mental stimulation. If you can't provide this, don't own one. Left alone all day in a small garden, makes for a very unhappy dog and it's cruel.

Rottweiler.

If you can't work out where these dogs are from, then I'm not going to tell you. They look more like Bulldogs than terriers and were bred for fighting. They were recognized by the American Kennel Club in 1893 and that's the only tip you are getting.

Basset Hound.

Scent hounds bred to hunt rabbits. The name Basset is derived from the French word bas, meaning low.
Watching one being taken for a walk the other day, I was surprised to see how low and long they are.
What a sad-looking face, if he had a begging bowl I'm sure I would have put money in to try and make him feel better. Better not tell the tramps, they will be stealing all the Bassets

Also known as the German Mastiff. The Great Dane is one of the world's tallest dog breeds and is often referred to as a gentle giant.

Rottweiler.

Bred in Russia to hunt wolves. They have a similar body shape to the Greyhound and I can just imagine how fast they must be. I've seen them used in the fashion industry with models, the only problem is most times I think the dog looks best and I'm sure it's supposed to be the other way round

These dogs are used as police and guard dogs, they are also used in search and rescue operations. They are very loyal and are great at looking after their humans.

The Pug has a fine coat and a compact square body. Developed in China it looks like a miniature Mastiff, I just love the tight curled tail.
